I am writing to invite native speakers of Yemeni Arabic, Norwegian, or Amharic to compete for a contracting opportunity with Second Language Testing, Inc. The work involves the writing of test passages based on authentic material. These tests will be used to assess the proficiency of speakers of various languages who wish to work for US Government agencies. As a language expert, your role would be to find and translate written and audio materials that are suitable for use in testing. Qualified applicants to this position should have listening and reading proficiency of at least an ILR level 3 (or ACTFL level Superior) in the target language (at the moment we are looking for native speakers of Yemeni Arabic, Norwegian, or Amharic), and ILR level 3 skills in English. We are looking for people with strong English writing skills (ILR level 3/ACTFL Superior), who are computer literate and have access to a high-speed Internet connection. About 15 hours a week of working from home is the average for this position.
Additional desired qualities include:
- Evidence of previous experience with the US Government’s Interagency Round Table (ILR) proficiency scale
- Professional experience in linguistics, literature or translation
- ·Target language writing, editing, or teaching experience
- ·Ability to deliver quality work on a deadline
- ·Test Item writing experience
Successful applicants will undergo a paid training. Work on the test includes monthly assignments that will be completed remotely. Compensation is provided for training and collection of passages, and writing of questions, based on the number of passages submitted and accepted. This work will continue until April 30, 2012.
