After the Southern African Development Community’s recent failure to promote a fair resolution of Zimbabwe’s crisis, opponents of the Mugabe dictatorship in both electoral politics and civil society are again coming together to ask, what can be done to advance democracy and socio-economic justice? The most authoritative voices belong to Morgan Tsvangirai and Thokozani Khupe.

Tsvangirai is founder of the MDC, and in civil society was secretary general of the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) during the 1990s, chairperson of the National Constitutional Assembly, and vice president of the National Mine Workers Union. Khupe, MP for Makokoba (Bulawayo), was formerly secretary for the ZCTU Women’s Advisory Council.

Rubin Phillip, Anglican Bishop of KZN and chair of the Zimbabwe Solidarity Forum, will open the proceedings.
