Gender, Education and Global Poverty Reduction Initiatives Symposium

10.mars.2009

DATE: 10 March 2009
TIME: 14:30 for 15:00
VENUE: Graduate School of Business Auditorium

BACKGROUND:
Since October 2007 a team of international researchers has been engaged in researching how global mandates and statements such as the Millennium Development Goals, particularly those pertaining to education and gender, are being taken up and translated by countries such as South Africa and Kenya. Already the team has completed the first of five case studies in South Africa and Kenya and engaged with various international organizations and agencies.

Although the team plans to organize national dissemination events at the end of the project in order to report on the findings, our in-country Advisory Committees have suggested that we hold annual symposia to brief key stakeholders about the project and the findings as they are beginning to emerge and to discuss and receive comment on them. The first Symposium is in KwaZulu-Natal because the first case study was conducted in this province.

On behalf of the Gender, Education and Global Poverty Reduction Initiatives (GEGPRI) Research Group, I take pleasure in inviting you to attend the upcoming GEGPRI 2009 Symposium. The symposium will take place on the 10th March 2009, in the Graduate School of Business Auditorium on the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Westville Campus, Durban, South Africa.

As mentioned above, the aim of this Symposium is to provide education organizations, interests groups and researchers with information about the project and to share the emerging findings from the research and elicit some responses and discussion about that.

Should you require any further details regarding the upcoming Symposium, please do not hesitate to contact the Symposium Secretariat, Mxolisi Ncube on 031 – 2601607, or fax 031 – 2601606.
